I Hope They Call Me on a Mission

Yesterday morning our ward had a Primary activity around the theme of missionaries. The kids seemed to have a fun time.

First, the kids met in the cultural hall to get packed. They had a little relay where they had to open the suitcase, put on the shirt, tie (just draped around their neck) and shoes, then run with the suitcase back to the line, take off the clothes and pack the suitcase back up for the next person. (I think Courtney and Hayley were the only two kids who tripped while they were trying to run in the big shoes.)

Then, they went to the MTC in the Primary room where they had a recently returned missionary teach the first discussion.

Next, came their mission call (okay, so this part was not quite in "order")

They had four missions planned -- Mexico, Canada (French-speaking), Argentina and Taiwan (Brian was in charge of this one). McKay got called to Mexico, Hannah to Argentina, Courtney to Taiwan and Hayley to Canada. But then it turned out the person doing Mexico didn't show up, so McKay ended up going to Canada with Hayley.

They each got a plane ticket and were off on their flight (on the stage). They got a snack of pretzels and watched the in-flight movie "Called to Serve" (part of it anyway).

Just a funny story about the movie. They had the Primary president's husband as the pilot of the plane -- he read through the pre-flight checklist (he has a pilot's license) and announced the flight info and movie. Apprently he wasn't familiar with "Called to Serve" and announced that the in-flight movie would be "To Serve." My friend was telling me later that she wondered why he announced it that way until she realized she had told him "the in-flight movie is Called to Serve" but he had heard it as "the in-flight movie is called, To Serve." :-)

Brian was in charge of the Taiwan mission and had a little group in his classroom.

He talked a bit about Taiwan and taught the kids how to say "I Am A Child of God" in Chinese, as well as write the characters. Here is Courtney with her characters (she did pretty good!):

Finally, the kids came back "home" to the Primary room for a big homecoming party with the parents (holding "Welcome Home" signs) and chocolate cake.

It was a fun activity! We had to stop at Sam's Club right after so we were all in our Church clothes. A couple of people commented on the girls being all dressed up and Hannah was very quick to tell anyone who would listen that they had been at Primary and had an activity about going on a mission. I think she will make a great missionary someday!

And the kids have recently learned the song "Called to Serve" in Primary and they have been singing it like crazy! They were singing it in the car and today McKay & Hannah have been singing it over and over!
