Today was registration at the kid's elementary school for students new to the district. They were all so excited to go and see inside the school. It is a very small district -- only 1 elementary, 1 middle/jr. high, and 1 high school, all within a couple of miles of each other. We have heard really good things about the school. The biggest downside for us is that it takes about 20 minutes or so to get there. But I'm sure we'll get used to that!
I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork -- times three (one set for each kid). Then we had to go see the nurse to get their shot records checked out. After looking them over, she told me that she was surprised to see that both McKay & Hannah got their second MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) shot earlier than the recommended age. Apparently, they aren't supposed to get the second dose until they are 4 years old (which Courtney did), but they both got theirs at about the age of 2.
Their old school never mentioned this as a problem, but this school did so their registration got put "on hold" until shots were taken care of. Fortunately, the district was providing a clinic at the high school today to help with missing immunizations. So off we went to the high school down the road and stood in line some more, filled out more paperwork, paid the fee, etc. Hannah went first and did great with only a small "ow." McKay was next and not quite so willing to sit for a shot. But eventually we did get him to sit long enough for the quick poke and we were done there.
Back to the elementary school to stand in more lines, get the "OK" on everything and get to take a tour of the school. It seems like a nice school -- the kids were excited that there are lockers in the hall that they will get to use for their backpacks and jackets (they don't actually lock them). It's a smaller school than our old one with only 4 or 5 classes per grade level. Courtney gets to go back before school as Kindergarten has a "Meet the Teacher" time, but the other kids won't have that.
We went out to lunch afterward since it had taken us all morning and everyone was starving and then we also decided to make another stop before going home at Cadillac Ranch (I'll have to do a whole separate post on that). I've left a message with the Bus Barn to try to figure out where the bus will pick them up so hopefully we can get that all worked out. The excitement is setting in for the start of school!
