I have been struggling for a while with what to do with my large, spacious kitchen counters -- specifically, the huge island and the higher "bar" counter that separates the kitchen from the family room. These two counters are like magnets -- they attract so much stuff! Papers, little toys, books, more papers, miscellaneous screws, magazines, etc. I realize a large part of that comes from having little kids and having kids in school (who knew there could be so many school papers?), but the mess has been driving me crazy lately.
A while ago I bought a three-ring binder and some pocket dividers to try to keep track of all the various papers, flyers, notes, etc. That seemed to help a little, but the counter was still a huge pile of stuff. So today I bought some larger bookends to make it easier to keep track of the binders, recipe books, scout books, etc. Then I put a basket to keep all the other little stuff. Here is what it looked like this evening:

Not too bad, but I know the big trick is going to be keeping it that way! It certainly freed up a lot of my island counter!
Now if only I knew what to do with this other counter (I can't believe I took a picture of it...)

I must get to bed -- I have to get up super early to catch my flight to Denver! I'm so excited to see my sisters (-in-law) and my mom and go to Time Out for Women! I hope Brian and the kids survive here at home. Brian is taking the day off to be stay-at-home-dad.
