Fun Outings!

Some of the fun, "smaller" outings we did while in Colorado...

Going out to eat! (A big adventure for our family!)

On Monday night we decided to try the nearby Village Inn Restaurant we had seen. To our kids, this is considered a "fancy" restaurant. It turned out to be a great night to take the kids. Not only were there fun kid's menus to color (nothing necessarily unique there)...

... but it was also "Kid's Night" so the kid's meals were free (one free kid's meal for each adult meal) and they had a food "dessert craft" for the kids to make. We did ours while we were waiting for our meals, but made the kids wait until later to actually eat made they made.

They made hot dog cupcakes! They frosted a cupcake, cut open an orange "peanut" candy, rolled a caramel into the hot dog and added frosting mustard and pieces of fruit roll-up for relish. Cute!

On our last night in Dillon, we found the Mexican restauant that my sister Sandra and her family really like (it's called Fiesta Jalisco). Problem is our kids are not big on Mexican food, so we were happy to see that they offered a selection of American choices (hamburgers, chicken nuggets, etc.).

One afternoon I took the 3 older kids to the big Outlet Stores. The stores are split into three sections on different corners of the main intersection, but are connected by pedestrian walkways. We parked at one center and even walked under a bridge and over another bridge to a second area! (And the kids were moaning and groaning all the way back about how tired they were!)

The main reason for our shopping excursion was to look for new tennis shoes for McKay and Hannah for school. We found some (at the Adidas Outlet)!

Another afternoon during Hayley's naptime, I took the 3 older kids to see Ratatouille at the movie theater (Brian was happy to stay home and read Harry Potter while Hayley napped).

We really don't get see movies in the theater very often, so this was a big treat for all of us! We got there early and up until the few minutes before the show started, we thought we might be the only ones in the theater (a handful of people did eventually show up).

The movie was great! The biggest problem we had was that Hannah and Courtney weren't heavy enough to keep the chairs down! :-) If they sat back at all, the chairs would just fold right up on them. Courtney ended up sitting on my lap for the whole movie because of this.

A final fun outing was on Friday. McKay really wanted to rent some bikes and ride them, so we decided that he and Brian would rent bikes for an hour to ride around the lake pathway.

They ended up riding all the way over to Frisco and back (took them just over an hour). McKay was pretty worn out when they got back, but had a fun time.

Meanwhile, to help the girls not feel left out, we took a little field trip of our own...

(They were complaining about the sun in their eyes for this picture.)

I let them each pick out a little "Littlest Pet Shop" set (under $5), that they couldn't wait to open up as soon as we got back in the van!

All 3 of them like to play with these (we have several at home) and they do have some pretty tiny accessory pieces (like a tiny "banana bottle" to go with the baby monkey). Amazingly, I think we only lost one of the small pieces on the rest of the journey home.
